Patrick Allitt is the Cahoon Family Professor of American history at Emory University. He was born and raised in England, was an undergraduate at Oxford, and then a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of seven books and the presenter of nine audio and video lecture series with “The Great Courses,” including an introductory course on US history, a biographical series on “The American Character,” and a series on the history of the American West.
