Episode #10 of the course Learn any subject with your own curriculum by Michelle Gommel

Once you have finished your entire curriculum, you should feel incredibly accomplished! You have gone above and beyond the normal and advanced your knowledge and your career. But what comes next? What will you do with your new knowledge?

Updating Your Professional Life

Particularly if you have received any sort of certification over the process of your curriculum, the first thing you should do is to update your resume. Letting potential employers know of your extra skills is a sure way to set you apart from other job seekers, whether you are looking for a job now or might consider it later.

If you are already employed, you should let your boss know that you’ve acquired new skills or expertise. You never know when an opportunity will arise that requires your unique skill set, and if your boss doesn’t know you have it, you may not be considered for that task. This could lead to a raise or a promotion that you wouldn’t have otherwise been eligible for!

Start a Side Hustle

If your new skill isn’t something that fits in well with your current job, that doesn’t mean it has to go to waste! Why not make some money while honing the skill you spent so much time and effort to learn? There is a great market out there for almost any product you could create, whether that’s an information product or something material. Have some fun selling your stuff on Etsy, writing articles for an online publication, or even creating your own phone or computer app!

Never Stop Learning

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” —W.B. Yeats

Now that you have finished your current curriculum, feel free to take a short break, but why waste a good habit? You now have the systems in place to make learning a priority in your life, and every new skill you learn will help you mature both personally and professionally.

So, what should you learn next? Did you really enjoy the subject you chose, and want to dive deeper in it? Do you want to further diversify your knowledge and choose a whole new subject? The prospects are wide open, and you already know that you can learn almost anything online. Feed your hunger for learning and turn that around into marketable skills.

You’re finished! I’m so proud of how far you’ve come, and I can’t wait to see what building a curriculum does for you.

Yours truly,

Michelle
